Romy Roux, Coach & Course Instructor, SAH Zurich This is what I do in my job: I work as a business analyst and in project management. As a business analyst, I define requirements for new application systems. In project management, I support program leadership (both business and IT) with project organization. What my studies at the IWI gave me: My studies at the IWI were a great help in preparing me for professional life—especially when it comes to analyzing requirements and understanding databases.

Dimitri Gebhard, Unit Manager and Member of the Executive Board, APP Unternehmensberatung AG This is what I do in my job: I am a management consultant and lead a team of 6 other consultants. I successfully manage complex projects across various industries and help organizations and processes restructure. Additionally, I develop services in the field of Enterprise Content Management to further advance digitalization in Switzerland. What my studies at the IWI gave me: My studies provided me with the foundational knowledge I need in my daily consulting work. In particular, I was able to build valuable expertise in the areas of requirement engineering and IT governance. Furthermore, I still maintain strong friendships with former classmates from the IWI.

Peter Kummer, CIO, SBB This is what I do in my job: As CIO, I am responsible for the effective and efficient use of IT resources within the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) Group and also oversee the digital transformation of the company. I am a member of the executive board and, as such, share responsibility for leading this large organization. What my studies at the IWI gave me: My studies taught me how to dive into new and unfamiliar topics, question hypotheses, and view them in a broader context. I also learned what true teamwork means during my studies. I continue to benefit from this experience to this day.

Dr. Natalie Jäggi, Head of Service Experience, Swisscom Switzerland This is what I do in my job: I am responsible for service experiences in the private and SME customer segments and implement innovative service elements in customer interaction, such as chatbots or artificial intelligence. Additionally, we develop and manage service products for end customers. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The studies and my PhD were excellent door openers. Although my daily work no longer revolves around traditional IT, my knowledge of information systems allows me to better understand the industry and collaborate smoothly with IT and process specialists.

Mathias Haller, Head of IT / CIO, Salvation Army Switzerland Foundation This is what I do in my job: Together with my team of 11 people (including 1 apprentice), we ensure IT infrastructure and workstations for approximately 1,800 employees in social professions across Austria, Switzerland, and Hungary. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The studies at the IWI were an ideal complement to my IT apprenticeship. Additionally, my master's thesis on "IT Governance in the Context of Non-Profit Organizations" specifically opened the door to my current field of work.

Kristina Kosanovic, Scrum Master, Mobiliar This is what I do in my job: My team helps clients efficiently manage business processes, advises and supports them in their development, identifies the latest trends, and only pursues those that are truly beneficial. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The studies provided me with interdisciplinary foundational knowledge in the fields of information systems, human resources, marketing, and controlling, from which I still draw valuable insights today. Additionally, the network built during the intensive training is still very useful.

Joel Krebs, Software Engineer, Facebook This is what I do in my job: I write code and build technology that is used by over a billion people every day. Currently, I am working on integrating Facebook with the professional world. What my studies at the IWI gave me: At the IWI, I learned how important both formal and informal processes are for the success of a project. Especially in a company as self-organizing as Facebook, it’s crucial to understand this.

Vanessa Schneider, Consultant, Dr. Pascal Sieber & Partners This is what I do in my job: I accompany various client projects in the role of business analyst from initiation to implementation and help develop innovative strategies for the transformation of business models and processes. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The knowledge from my studies at the IWI helps me quickly gain an overview of the client's challenges and use various methods and tools, such as those from process or project management, in a targeted manner.

Dr. Beat Jaccottet, CIO/CTIO, Quickline AG This is what I do in my job: My team is migrating the current core banking system to a new, future-oriented IT platform. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The studies allowed me to act as a bridge between business and IT—helping me understand how IT not only enables automation and quality improvement but also facilitates new business models. For business professionals, competencies in information systems are indispensable today.

Dr. Oliver Klaus, Strategic Deal & Business Development Executive, T-Systems This is what I do in my job: My organization provides Swisscom customers with high-quality consulting services in the areas of IT and telecommunications, as well as in the context of digitalization (strategy, business model innovation, etc.). What my studies at the IWI gave me: The IWI program made it much easier for me to transition into professional life. The subject matter learned during the course allowed me to quickly navigate and develop in my career. I’ve benefitted the most from the broad scope of information systems and the close connection to business-related questions.

Tanja Lipak, Process Manager and Engineer, PostFinance This is what I do in my job: I develop, manage, and optimize the core processes of our "Workplace" division (Human Resources and Facility Management). What my studies at the IWI gave me: The knowledge I gained (e.g., in process management) and the practical opportunities (e.g., case studies) made it much easier for me to transition into my current role. It’s great fun to apply what I learned at the IWI in practice.

Pascal Burkhard, Consultant, Accenture This is what I do in my job: I analyze customer requirements and propose approaches for technical solutions, which are then developed by internationally distributed teams. What my studies at the IWI gave me: I learned how to approach a wide range of problems in a structured and analytical way.

Dr. Alexandra Zaugg, Project Manager Market Research and Customer Experience, SBB This is what I do in my job: In market research studies in passenger transport, I advise employees from the planning of the study to the result reporting. I serve as the interface to the market research institutes. What my studies at the IWI gave me: The PhD sharpened my ability to quickly process new content in a structured way and think in a networked manner. Additionally, the technical understanding helps when setting up surveys, such as programming questionnaires.

Dr. Thomas Fischer, Lecturer, HSLU, BFH, Unibe This is what I do in my job: As head of the Organization & Information Technology division, I am responsible for departments covering IT operations, vendor management, applications, IT projects, IT architecture, and IT security. What my PhD at the IWI gave me: Among other things, it sharpened my ability to think analytically and conceptually. This helps me structure complex issues in practice without losing sight of the bigger picture.
