The increasing digitalization of the corporate world is leading to an ever-greater number and complexity of cyber risks. However, to survive in such an increasingly digital environment with born-digital competitors, traditional organizations must take on such cyber risks in order to survive. This requires effective management of cyber risks and continuous monitoring and refinement of the necessary measures.
In this new research area, we aim to explore the cyber risks and risk mitigation strategies associated with corporate venturing in traditional organizations. To this end, we examine traditional organizations that invest heavily in spin-offs as a way to keep pace with their industry, gain sustainable advantages, attract talent, and be prepared for potential competition from born-digital organizations.
